Kings Hotel Inn & Suites 12 Main Street East, Kingsville, ON N9Y 1A2 (519) 712-9546
A half-million dollars worth of renovation to a former hotel that dates back to 1885 has given Kingsville the upscale inn it needs. Phil Towle has turned what most remember as the Fogcutter Dining Lounge on Main Street East into a 20-room inn that will resemble the King's Hotel as it stood in the early 1900s, with balconies on the second and third floors. The site has been used for a hotel since the late 1800s. A building that dated back to 1854 had been used for a temperance house, a tenement house, a home for Alfred King and a hotel until it was destroyed in a fire in 1885, according to the book Kingsville 1790- 2000, A Stroll Through Time. The book says a two-storey hotel was designed by owner Walter Pastorius and built in 1885. It used bricks from the Miner brickyard and had plaster walls trimmed with chestnut. In 1889 a third storey was added. Pastorius sold it in 1903 and it was renamed the King's Hotel. Over the years it has been called the King's Hotel, the Moore Hotel, the Kingsville Hotel and the Fogcutter Dining Lounge, the book says. The Fogcutter had a restaurant and small apartments. Towle said his upscale inn will include some rooms with access to the balconies that will stretch across the front of the hotel. The inn will also have a restaurant in the lower level that features the original stone wall and terrazzo floors. Towle is planning to add a patio and an outdoor pool at the side. He expects to charge $70 to $150 for a room per night. The design tries to mimic the original hotel by putting the stairs back in the middle of the inn and installing arched windows. We look forward to welcoming you as our distinguished guests on your next trip to the area.

This is a family operation providing guests with comfortable accommodations in a restful country setting. People enjoy staying here because it is very relaxing and quiet. Often the only sounds are bird songs and the rustle of trees in the nearby peach and apple orchards. There is air conditioning in all the rooms or for those who prefer fresh air, there is a cooling breeze which makes for a good night sleep. Our Motel is three miles directly south of the famous Jack Miner's bird sanctuary. Jack Miner was a good friend of our parents, and our road sign and logo is an exclusive — the Canadian Geese in it came directly from a Jack Miner etching given to us by his son, Manley.
